Local show or race days
Under the provisions of the National Employment Standards, local show or race days are dealt with in the same manner as other public
holidays. If a local show day or race day is listed as a gazetted
public holiday under the Bank Holidays Act, and you open your service on
that day, employees will need to be paid at public holiday penalty rates. Under
both the Children’s Services Award 2010
and the Educational Services (Teachers)
Award 2010, an alternate day may be substituted for the public holiday. If
you agree to substitute the holiday for another day, you are able to open and
pay ordinary rates on the local public holiday, and then the alternate
substitute day becomes the “public holiday”. Please contact CCSA for
more information if you are considering the substitution of a public holiday,
as the arrangements for doing this differs between awards.
