CCSA Award for Excellence 2011
Congratulations
to Kendall Preschool, the winner of the 2011 CCSA Award for Excellence. This year we asked services to tell us how
they encourage children to show respect for the natural environment. Kendall
Preschool, on the mid north coast of NSW, has been building outdoor rooms for
about 5 years; with a focus on native vegetation, a veggie patch, an orchard,
chooks, and frog habitats. They have also been working with local Aboriginal
elders to grow bush tucker plants, and to learn how to weave the native grasses
they grow. The preschool has initiated a campaign to reduce litter on local
beaches, with the children writing to the local paper and designing signs
alerting people to the problems that sea litter raises for marine animals.
Andrew Bagnall, Director of Kendall Preschool, receives the CCSA Award for Excellence
from Jim Craddock, CCSA Board
As we
received so many high quality applications this year, we also granted four
Highly Commended Awards. These went to Lilly Pilly Preschool, Wollongbar
Community Preschool, Amy Hurd Child Care Centre and IACC Smith Street
Children’s Centre.
Thank you to
everyone who entered this year’s Award, and congratulations to all our winners.
